Subject: Kava video
To: [log in to unmask]

This is in response to a general inquiry several months ago from Eric
Silverman and Mac Marshall about videos that show the preparation and
consumption of kava. There is a new video, Kava: The Drink of the Gods,
which shows kava preparation and rituals in Vanuatu, Samoa, and Fiji, and
also discusses the current commodification of kava, including
pharmaceutical company involvement and the possibility of intellectual
property rights being applicable. The 90 minutes film was made by Thorolf
Lipp and the Institute for Pacific Studies at USP. It should be available
in July or August, in PAL format only, for US$20 plus postage from IPS. You
can contact IPS at USP, Box 1168, Suva, Fiji or [log in to unmask]
