_Essays in History_, the University of Virginia Corcoran Department of
History's annual history journal, solicits contributions for its 1999
issue.  Now entering its forty-first year, _Essays in History_ has long
provided a forum in which accomplished work by scholars at any stage of
their careers can publish in a refereed journal.  The last three issues
can be seen at:

The current issue will be published both on the web and in _Essays in
History's_ accustomed hard format.

Scholars in all fields of history are encouraged to submit their work.
Articles should be approximately 20-30 pages in length and must be
based on original research.  To submit an essay to _Essays in History_,
send three copies to:
