Rod, here are a couple of references but they are prior to 1990: article
by W. Arnold, "Absinthe" in Scientific American, June 1989 pp 112 - 117
and another article - D. Vogt & M. Montagne, "Absinthe: Behind the
Emerald Mask" in the International Journal of Addictions, 17(6) pp
