Melling (University of Exeter) contributes an informative review of "the
second republication" of Virginia Berridge, Opium and the People: Opiate
Use and Drug Control Policy in Nineteenth- and Early Twentieth Century
England (London and New York: Free Association Books, 1999), available in
cloth and paperback editions. The book combines a reprint of the original
text and new material.
