For those willing to travel on the first days of the new millenium I
report that that the annual meeting of the American Historical
Association will be held in Chicago, 6-9 January 2000. The deadline
for submission of AHA-sponsored papers and sessions is 15 February
1999. Details are available in the September 1998 AHA newsletter
called Perspectives. Or you can email for these materials
([log in to unmask]) or go the AHA's web page
(http://chnm.gmu.edu/aha). Four copies of the complete proposal
(including the cover sheet and the items specified in the checklist
should be mailed to Claire Moses, 2101 Woods Hall, University of
Maryland, College Park, M 20742-4525.
In addition to AHA-sponsored sessions, many affiliated societies
sponsor sessions at the AHA annual meeting. For details about
ATHG-sponsored sessions, email one of the ATHG officers: Patricia
Prestwich, president, George Snow, secretary-treasurer, or W. Scott
Haine, editor, Social History of Alcohol Review. Generally the ATHG
has sponsored two sessions (and also has held a business breakfast or lunch).
You may want to use the ATHG listserv to find people who want to
present related papers or are willing to serve as commentator or
moderator. That worked well for me when I put together an
AHA-sponsored session on comparative prohibition studies in 1997.
Good luck!
