Dear Joe:
I recall seeing, a few years ago, a citation for a dissertation on the topic
of (I believe) rhetorical clusters in
Anti-Saloon League publications. I cannot find my bibliographic card for
the dissertation but if you can access Dissertation Abstacts, the desired
information should appear. This might provide a good starting-point for
your researches.
Of course, if you want to sample "copper distilled" temperance testimony,
look for volumes by John Gough, the essential 19th-century dry apostle.
Many academic libraries have one or two of his works, as do, I have found,
a number of small public libraries.
Good luck with your searching--
