Colleagues,
As many of you know, Evelyn Hu-DeHart, Director of the Center for the
Study of Race and Ethnicity in America and Professor of History, Brown
University will be speaking on campus on Thursday, October 19 at 4:30
p.m. in Pearson 128. Her public talk is entitled, "The Asian Diaspora
in Latin America: 1492 to the Present". She is one of the premier
historians on US and Latin American immigration, women's labor, and
globalization.

While Professor Hu-DeHart is on campus, she will be attending two
classes, as well as meeting informally with faculty and students. The
History department has already requested one class visit, and so Evelyn
is still available to speak to another class on Friday morning, October
20, 2006.
Dr. Hu-DeHart can speak on a wide range of issues related to women,
labor, and globalization. For example, she would be willing to talk to
one of your classes about immigrant women workers in the contemporary US
in both the formal and informal economic sectors.

Please let me know if you are interested in having her come to one of
your classes or if there are any classes that might benefit from a visit
from Professor Hu-DeHart during the times that she is available and I
will contact the instructor.

To learn more about Professor Hu-DeHart and her work, please visit the
following website,

Dr. Hu-DeHart's visit is sponsored by the Center for American and World
Cultures with support from the College of Arts and Science Diversity
Fund, Department of History, East Asian Studies Program, Etheridge
Center for Reflective Leadership, Honors and Scholars Program, Richard
T. Farmer School of Business, and the Se Yung Chung International Fund
of the Department of German, Russian, and East Asian Languages.

Also, let me know if you would like to be included in one of the meals.
I am going to be sending out invitations shortly.

Once again, thank you for your support, Mary Jane Berman
