Dear members;

Since many of you could not make the meetings, we wanted to give you the opportunity to vote for the new secretary position. The following speeches are from both of the candidates. Please read these carefully and let me know who you wish to vote for NO LATER THAN THURSDAY AT 5PM. Please, keep in mind, these are the people that will be serving you as an executive member. Please choose the candidate you think is best suited for the position.

Speech from Stephanie Brock:

"Hey everybody! First I wanna start by saying how much I miss you guys and can't wait to meet new members and get back to Ox! Now let's get down to business (to defeat the huns... haha!) I've been an active member of ALAS since my freshman year and a member of the Exec Board since 2nd semester freshmen year. I ¢¾ ALAS! I ¢¾ the people, the activities, the knowledge I've gained about Latino culture from members and workshops we've had/attended, and I ¢¾ participating in this organization! However, this semester, since I've been abroad in Mexico, there's been something missing--not just friends, family, and toilet seats (haha), but also a certain kind of feeling. The kind of feeling that I'm a part of something, something important. ALAS may not be changing the world but it means the world to me. And I promise, if I'm elected to an executive position, I will do my best to not only dedicate time and effort to the betterment (is that a real word?) of the organization but also to represent ALAS and encourage members and future members to actively participate! The only other thing I have to say is that all I can ask of you is to look at my past history of ALAS to make your decisions because actions speak louder than words. And last but not least, I hope everyone is having a great semester and m1issing me as much as I miss all of you. Take care of YOUR organization!! Until January. Besos y abrazos! :)"

Speech from Ana Contessa:

"Hi, for those who do not know me my name is Ana Contessa. I am a freshmen with a double major in Geography and Environmental Science. This might make you hesitant on how much time I will have to do my job as secretary, but this is not going to be a problem. Since middle school I had to learn to manage my time since I was in two sport teams. In high school I had to learn how to manage my time even more, because I was in two varsity teams and was responsible for marketing NHS events as well as organizing the activities for the social work hour requirements that our school had. Not only am I good at managing time but also I consider myself responsible, a hard worker, and an organized person. I might be a freshman, that is new to everything at Miami, but I have been going to Alas¡¯ activities and seen more or less how things work in the organization. My willingness, that not everyone has, on going to the activities are proof of my interest in Alas and should show you how willing I would be to work as secretary. I hope you give the opportunity to contribute and help in Alas.

Thank you"

Again, read these speeches and make your decision.

Thanks,

GOOD LUCK WITH FINALS!!!
