Dear ALAS Friends and Colleagues,
Although the CAWC does not yet have a formal title for next year's program, it is going to address the UN Goals for the Millenium:
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development
So far, we've planned a symposium on "Empowerment Through the Arts", a lecture/residency by someone from "Free the Slaves", and a program on "No Child Left Behind".
Your interests, disciplines, and perspectives have much to offer these topics and so I invite you to send me your suggestions about speakers, programs, and other matters. I welcome your ideas and insights and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thanks in advance, Mary Jane Berman
