Ruth,
When grammarians get together they often start slinging jargon around like
half-pulled taffy at a New Year's Eve party. Try to enjoy it. Never
interpret it as extraordinary knowledge. We are often as insecure in our
grammatical judgments as any novice.
Please post your questions and comments as freely as if you were a
recognized expert. Then watch the flood of suggestions and interpretations
come your way. We always have a bucketful of approaches to anything
grammatical. Hopefully, there will be something in the bucket that is
helpful to you. We try to be good scholars but most of us are teachers
first and we have a compulsion to teach. Thanks for being a part of our
conversation.
