This is my first time posting to the list. I teach Basic Writing at a community college in Michigan and have found the need to explain the concept of "embedding" to my students. I would like to take the liberty of asking what might be a simple way to explain this notion to students who are not well-versed in the language(s) of grammar. I think this concept has intuitive resonance. I am always looking for ways to bring out student know-how where syntax is concerned.

Thanks,
