I've been following this thread with interest. Saying "I shot a final arrow.
. . " is really quite different from saying "I shot the final arrow . . ."
Using the definite article indicates that there are no more arrows. The
quiver is empty. On the other hand, using the indefinite article indicates
merely that the subject stopped shooting. The finality pertains to the
shooting, not to the arrow.
