To practice how to write units for sixth graders and how to
incorporate language studies, I wrote a unit on "Goals and
Aspirations." It is based on one of the units in the Michigan
curriculum for the sixth grade. The Michigan curriculum provides only
a summary of each unit, and the teacher has to flesh it out into an
actual unit plan. So that's what I have tried to do.
Keep in mind that I'm trying to include many strands of language
studies, not just grammar. You will find a list of the nine strands
of language studies for sixth grade at the beginning of the unit.
You can find the unit on the ATEG web site. Click on publications,
then monographs (at the very bottom). In another week or two it
should be available to the search mechanism.
