I haven't seen any large-scale studies (they probably exist -- it's just
*I* haven't seen them), so the comment I'm about to make is purely
anecdotal. My experience with home-schooled students attending college
is that their average performance probably matches that of most of the
other students (the admissions process could create some of this effect,
of course; it's hard to say without knowing proportions of admitted vs.
non-admitted for the two groups).
