Gretchen and all who are interested,

If you want to try something along the lines I've suggested, you could help
shape those parameters by your example. For me, three parts are especially
important: 1) an informal narrative about the experiences that have shaped your
thinking about teaching grammar and where you are now in your thinking; (2) an
informal "base paper" (as NCTE called it) that is designed to elaborate on the
narrative and to generate thinking on the part of those reading the paper; (3)
questions/issues that you have currently (this to demonstrate that you are an
ongoing learner as well as to pose questions for discussion).

To get some idea of what we might do, I suggest you log onto the NCTE's
Teacherfest web pages and see what the virtual speakers were asked to do and
did, then decide what you'd like to change or add. The URL is
http://www.ncte.org/teacherfest/speakers.shtml.

I've been at a conference this past week but am leaving tomorrow for a beach in
North Carolina. No laptop for me!
But I'll be in touch after I return.

Connie
