Any system that is monitoring the content of my e-mails, whether by
human or machine, makes me uncomfortable, especially in the current
context, in which security concerns are prompting government to try to
increase their access to citizen information without having to inform
anyone that they are doing so. I also don't really like commercial
interests gathering information about me, whether they can trace it to
me directly or not. I know a lot of this goes on already, but I'll avoid
volunteering where I can.
I don't want to get into a political discussion about this on the list;
I don't think this one is germane to our mission (though plenty of
others are--that have an effect on education). I appreciate John's
clarification of how G-mail works. We can decide on or own whether to
subscribe or not.
