Elizabeth,

I look forward to seeing what you put up on your web site. And please don't feel bad about posting what you did. The occasional spash of cold water both refreshes and makes us look at what we've been saying through fresh eyes.

Herb

	Dear Herb:

Thank you for your kind and generous response. I really did not expct that. It has made the listserve seem a friendlier place. Please be asssured I would never have sent that e-mail to you if I had known you were the one who posted the defense of linguistic theories. Had I spent less time venting and a moment or two on research, it would not have happened.

I will put somethin on my website in a few days. Posting the color code will not be much of a problem, but answering your related queryis not so easy. ( "I’m interested in the pedagogical question of what information you decide to represent for the grade level you teach—and how you tailor the representation to that age-

	group." )

I read a lot of books before I started this project including Martha Koln's. I was pretty much in sync with everything until I asked myself what grammar really is needed for native writers. I think I owe you an honest answer, but it's going to take some gathering of humility. On the other hand, If you were to discover something really "wrong," I would want to know about it. I'm pretty close to finishing my project, but there is still time to change.

I really do appreciate the need for theorizing if the future is to improve. Keep opening up the way.

	Thanks again.

	Elizabeth Ward
