Here's another one: Margaret Forster's *The Lady's Maid* in which Elizabeth
Wilson, maid to Elizabeth Barrett, looks at her mistress, her mistress'
relationship to Robert Browning, and ultimately at herself. It is a
wonderful piece of historical fiction, true to the contours of the
Brownings' relationship and lives yet provides a social historian's context
for what it was like to "stand and serve" and, ultimately, to be cast off.
Cheers and thanks for the list.
