As to 'looks' taking noun-phrase complements how about:

She looks the same as she always has.



To respond to Kirsten Taylor's question:

He looks the way he used to.
  - "he used to" is a reduced relative, as Herb Stahlke points out.

He looks the way that he used to look.
- Restores the relative pronoun 'that'; fills in the abbreviated verb 
("deleted under identity", that is, left out because it is the same as 
the 'looks' in the main clause).

He used to look (that way, some way).
  - Restores the noun phrase that is replaced by 'that' in the full 
relative clause.
