Grammarian is a storied and honored term that I claim for myself as well. There is a huge overlap between the training and work of the grammarian and of the linguist. And I learn a lot from keep company with the many grammarians and linguists on this list. In the immortal words of the OED, "Keep it up!"

I was deep in grammar before I ever heard the term 'linguistics.'
Now I have a doctorate in linguistics but still consider myself a grammarian. I find no contradiction although, admittedly, I am a structuralist.
