Bob, I remember those years when you and Jim presented; your friendship even across the miles was clear and beautiful. I hope you find both peace and joy in your memories of him.

Subject: Jim Kenkel
Colleagues,
Jim Kenkel, Professor of English at Eastern Kentucky University and my best friend, died in his sleep last night.
Jim and I in the 1990s were yearly presenters at ATEG. In our papers in the Journal of Basic Writing, the Journal of Second Language Writing, and Written Communication, we argued for the importance of the knowledge of language for teachers and students.
Our field has lost a strong voice for why the teaching of grammar matters.
