messages to ATEG attempting to subscribe are a result of confusion between
sending a message to the list itself (ateg@...) and to the (mechanical)
manager of the list (listserv@....).  So are messages inquiring about those
subscription messages.  Since this list has no (human) supervisor who can
screen inappropriate messages, all subscribers are subjected to them.
