I don't know if this is a fix or not, but it might be helpful -- if
you're using Outlook or any other full email client that allows "rules"
to be applied to your inbox, you can effectively filter out messages
from any particular individual (or rather, from any particular email
address). Just set up an "If message is from <X> send it to <trash
folder>" rule. Of course, now that I've posted this, next time I post
something and no one replies, I'll get all depressed. 

Currently, there's no aural equivalent to use on specific colleagues
during department meetings, or on particular relatives, alas, but I have
this nifty idea involving computer-linked hearing aids....
