Few would dispute that the goal of diversity in the academic
workplace is a worthy one. However, many believe that efforts
toward achieving that goal have led to instances of reverse
discrimination in hiring, retention, and promotion. I am performing
research on this perception that affirmative action, in practice, often
means discrimination. How widespread is it, and how justified?
Given the current political atmosphere, this study is quite relevant,
and any cooperation is appreciated.

I have chosen to remain anonymous for the simple reason that it makes
an absolutely honest discussion possible. Readers cannot be influenced by
my sex, academic affiliation, and the like, nor I by theirs, since their
responses will also be anonymized before being forwarded to me. And, they
will not need to fear going on record in discussing an issue that arouses
strong feelings on both sides, a particularly important consideration for
graduate students and nontenured faculty.

Please, if you feel that you have experienced or witnessed an instance
of reverse discrimination, give me your account of it. What happened?
What action did you take? How did others react? How did the experience
affect your feelings toward your profession?

You may reach me at the following address:

As I noted, any replies will be anonymized before being forwarded to
me, so there is no way for anyone to learn your identity.

Thank you.
