One self-proclaimed expert in English grammar once sneered at me,
"There is never any justification for using 'gotten'; no semantic difference
exists between 'got' and 'gotten."
My response was "I've gotten to go to the circus just once; oh, well,
I've got to go; see you later."

We know that people sometimes=C2=A0put 'had' in front of past tense verbs a=
nd we know that when they try to put 'had' in front of an irregular past te=
nse=C2=A0verb, 'had forgot' doesn't sound right so it becomes 'had forgotte=
n' instead of 'forgot'.=C2=A0It's called=C2=A0'forcing the iregular past pa=
rticiple'.

Why else did Scott write: I had forgotten (shame on me!) just how good Orwe=
