Doesn't this sentence depend on audience and purpose? In a piece of
fiction, especially, it would be effective - with the ambiguity
perhaps intentional. The example is taken from Harry Noden's Image
Grammar - from an exercise in which students are attempting "brush
strokes" - in this case absolutes - to approach the power of some of
their favourite authors.
