Yes, Kendall/Hunt published Revising the Rules back in 1993 and then
brought out a second edition. My arrangement with them was that I would buy
out the copies unsold in a press run after two years. (Fortunately, I
haven't had to do so--yet.) My office mate and another colleagues
co-authored a text book on public speaking published by K/H. Their deal was
different; they would use the course in their courses and in the courses at
a nearby community college where they knew some people.
In both these set-ups, K/H seems to like to minimize their risk. I
enjoyed working with the editors and marketing people. Their marketing
follow-up, with ads, flyers, etc. was so-so, and my colleague had the same
opinion, or worse. In my case they did do extensive mailings to target
populations of flyers for each of the two editions.

Hey, anyone out there who has published a book ... a publisher's rep.
approached me today about publishing my grammar book. The publisher is
Kendall/Hunt. I am completely green about publishing a book, and don't
want to get snookered, as the British say. Can anybody give me advice? I
can send a few questions to you if you respond to me personally. I have
a contract on my desk and have to decide by 11/29.
One thing that makes me suspicious is that they do not automatically
send the book out for peer-review, although they will do so if I request
it. Anyway, I'll pose more questions if I get responses.
