This site has a good list of patron saints: www.scborromeo.org/patron_p.htm
Patron saints of authors/writers: John the Apostle and Francis de Sales
of scholars: Bridgid of Ireland
of editors: John Bosco
(Hmm, there are 4 saints for publishers, who must need more help. . . . )

Although he's not an official patron of grammar, you could go with St.
Columbanus. According to his life, he devoted himself enthusiastically
to the study of grammar.
Or what about St. Gotteschalk, patron of linguists and translators?
Or if your student feels particularly desperate, St. Jude (lost causes),
or St. Medard (the menally ill).
