As some of you know, Joe Novak was my mentor. I just received this
email from him this morning sharing the sad news that David Ausubel
died yesterday morning. Given the influence of Ausubel on Novak and
many of our own views of learning, I thought I would share this sad
news. At this time, Joe does not know if a memorial fund has been
established, but I will pass along any additional information I
learn. If you'd like to learn more about the life and work of
Ausubel, please visit his website at the URL below.

Sincerely,
Stacey

>Dear Colleagues -- I had e-mailed Ausubel yesterday with a question. I
>was shocked to receive an e-mail from his wife Gloria informing me
>that David had died that morning. He was in failing health, but I was
>not expecting this news.
>
>As many of you know, David and I worked together on a number of
>things, and his assimilation theory of learning has been the
>foundation for our research and instructional programs since 1963. He
>pioneered cognitive learning theory at a time when behavioral
>psychology was overwhelmingly dominant in the USA and other countries.

>His web site gives additional information on his career:

>Sincerely - Joe Novak
