Subject: Postdoctoral Fellowship at Oxford University

A 9-month Postdoctoral Fellowship in the broad field of chemical education
is available at Oxford University; outline details below. I should point out
that interviews for this post will be taking place in early August and that,
unfortunately, we are unlikely to bring candidates in for interview from
outside the U.K. Because the post is of nine months duration, the interview
expenses pot is of limited size so flying people in for interview from the
US is unlikely to be feasible.

If you are aware of anyone who might be interested in the post, I'd be
grateful if you could pass the details along.

****
A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available for a period of nine months to work
on a broad-based science project at Oxford University. This appointment will
be based in the Chemistry Department and funded by the Oxford HEFCE Centre
for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

The successful applicant will contribute to the development, assessment and
teaching of all aspects of the Oxford undergraduate course in experimental
chemistry, which is currently under review. He or she will be part of a
small team of chemists and educationalists, building a course that both
illuminates the lectures and enthuses our undergraduates.

A Fellow with expertise in the physical sciences may offer particular input
into course design and the content of new and revised experiments; a Fellow
whose specialism is in education might instead focus on assessment, the
meeting of educational objectives and the format of experiments. Whatever
their background, we anticipate that the Fellow will work on a variety of
tasks, so a broad and demonstrable interest in both science and its teaching
is absolutely essential.

The Fellowship is available immediately and will run for a period of nine
months, ending no later than July 31, 2010. The position is non-renewable.
We expect the Fellow to start work by October 2009.

For further details, including how to apply, visit our website
http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/jobs.asp {IMPORTANT NOTE: These details should be
added to the chemistry website on or near July 7th; if you want details
before then, contact one of those whose email is given below.) These
details should be obtained before an application is made. Informal enquiries
should be addressed to Dr Hugh Cartwright ([log in to unmask]) or
Dr Malcolm Stewart ([log in to unmask]).
The closing date for applications is Tuesday 28 July 2009. Please ensure
that you quote post reference number DN09006/HC in all correspondence.
