The Center for Authentic Science Practice in Education (CASPiE) is
searching for a program manager to assist with daily activities of the
Center and with evaluative research. CASPiE is funded by the
Undergraduate Research Centers (URC) program of the Chemistry Division
of NSF. CASPiE's purpose is to provide undergraduate students with
research experiences as part of the curriculum of their first and
second year mainstream courses, rather than making research an
extracurricular activity for them. CASPiE is an inter-institutional
effort among the Departments of Chemistry at Purdue University, the
University of Illinois at Chicago, College of DuPage , Northeastern
Illinois University, Ball State University, Harold Washington College,
Moraine Valley Community College, Olive Harvey College and Vincennes
University, and the State University of New York at Buffalo. More
information about CASPiE is available at www.caspie.org.

The Program Manager would work full time with CASPiE staff, including
all four of the CASPiE PI's, and would be located in the CASPiE offices
at Purdue University. Tasks would include assisting with planning and
devlopment of educational materials, program
implementation, and managing Center activities. The content for the
teaching materials will be developed by other Center staff, but the
Program Manager will be involved in compiling it and preparing it for
use in classes. The Program Manager will also coordinate and assist
with workshops that the Center will run, will keep track of Center
budgets, be able to work with the business offices of the various
Center partners, place and track orders and be able to process necessary

paperwork. The Program Manager will also aid with the reporting
activities of the Center both to funding agencies and internally. The
position also provides the opportunity to become involved in the
evaluation research associated with the program to as deep a level as
the applicant is interested.

This position requires a person who is a self-starter, mature and
dependable. The applicant must have excellent organizational and
interpersonal skills, and must be able to communicate very well both by
oral and written means. The position requires the ability to handle a
budget, including the development and maintenance of a budget
spreadsheet for the Center.

It is preferred that the applicant hold a PhD in Science Education, or a
related field, but a MS will also be accepted. It is preferred that the
candidate have experience working in a university or academic
environment. Previous program management experience is a plus.
The applicant must be willing to travel (usually only for the day) to
partner locations in Chicago, Muncie or others within a 2-4 hour drive.

Computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, and email are a
must.
Ability to help with maintaining the Center website is a plus, but not
required.

If you are interested, please send a letter of interest and a resume to
Gabriela C. Weaver, [log in to unmask] The position is open to be
filled immediately, and will be funded until at least August 2009 and
possibly after that time, pending funding. We will be accepting
applications until the position is filled. Pay is competitive.
