Do these rules also apply to 3.x installs? We have not upgraded to 4.x
yet.

windows updates

Sorry, should have been more clear. I meant that since some patches
will not be necessary if IE7 is installed (e.g. certain IE6 patches), we
will be modifying the rules to not check for those hotfixes if IE 7 is
present...

Is it possible to make this rule not part of the XP hotfixes?

I understand it will be a "critical patch" but I would like for it to
cook a bit before I require 5000 computers to run it.

We are not loading it on our university owned computers until Summer 07

Any one else thinking this way?

Doug,

The pr_XP hotfixes rules currently do not accommodate for IE7. Though
the rule is set up with checks for versions of IE, it would still pose a
problem for use with IE7.

We are currently working through those in our labs and hope to have a
new version of the rule out soon.

It appears my initial question got a bit hijacked by the first reply to
it so I felt I should repost this, since I think it would be important
for others to know the answer as well. That way we can either tell
people to not install IE7 just yet, or we can start encouraging them to
install it.

Thanks!

Internet Explorer 7 Final is available now on Microsoft's website -
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx

I'm a bit curious about how the rules in CCA will work now. Currently
with Windows XP SP2, CCA does a 'if SP2, then check for these updates'
or 'if non SP2, check for these different updates' because Windows
Update makes different updates available based on if you have SP2 or
not. Will CCA be doing the same with Internet Explorer? We already ran
into the problem where if you had and IE7 Beta installed and ran Windows
Update, some IE6 updates that CCA required wouldn't be listed as
available, and when you try to manually install them, Windows won't let
you. The students had to uninstall IE7, install the IE6 patches, then
install IE7 again.

So I'm hoping that there will be a similar thing for IE like there
currently is for SP2. Is that going to be the case?

Also, since MS is going to (or already has?) require SP2 and do no
further updates for non-SP2 PCs, will CCA be dropping the SP2/non-SP2
conditions?

Thanks!
