I just got off the phone with Doug at Perfigo/Cisco- great guy!  The
3.5.3 client will work with 3.5.4.  The other clients will work (from
3.4.x on), but as you said, the VPN functionality will not work and
that's the whole reason we're biting the bullet and going to 3.5.4!

We're running the 3.2.0 client with the 3.5.3 server.......  (We're
force upgrading them in about a week)

The clients are forwards compatible (so far)  as long as you don't
implement new features that are not supported in old clients.
