We have, thus far, seen no IE7 beta installations on student computers.

Just out of curiousity, what is the % of users in your networks that use
IE7 beta 1 or beta 2 currently?

-Rajesh.

P.S. This question is addressed not just to Dave.

We don't have good actual counts, but with a population of roughly 2,000
on CCA, we've probably had 10-15 people with the problem call the
HelpDesk over the past few weeks. We are predominately a Windows
environment, have MS campus licensing to allow all students to run the
latest Windows -- and well, being in the shadow of Redmond find quite a
few students always wanting the latest and greatest from MS (whether
beta or otherwise). We haven't been asking about IE7 beta1 or beta2 --
is the problem different between the two versions?

Mike,

We will support IE7 soon. The exact date is not known because we don't
know the exact release dates for IE7. IE7 beta currently breaks a lot
of things, not just CCA. But, since it is IE, we know that we have to
support it soon after it is real. Sorry I don't have a certain date but
as we know more about release plans from Microsoft, we will have more
concrete plans. As for now, the latest we know from Microsoft is what
they posted in an IE blog on MSDN... excerpt below:

"For this Beta 2 release, we're taking the extra step of offering
no-charge phone support <http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/>
to consumers in North America, Germany and Japan. We're offering phone
support to encourage people who usually shy away from beta software to
try IE7 Beta 2. We believe that IE7 - even at this beta stage - is a
significant improvement and we want as many people as possible to try it
and use it. IE7 is feature complete and has been through significant
compatibility and reliability testing. People (especially technology
enthusiasts) will have a good experience with it.
What's next? Windows Vista Beta 2, and then Beta 3 of IE7, release
candidates, and then a final release before end of year."

Since this indicates that there will be one more beta before release, we
will most likely start tracking to IE7 once beta 3 is released. Btw,
for all the compatibility testing, we know that it has issues with
Google toolbar, Yahoo toolbar, Media Center, etc., etc. and, of course,
CCA. :-(

-Rajesh.

Are there work-around solutions to the IE7-CCA problem? It's pretty
easy to tell a student to live without a toolbar, not so easy to say
"you can't get on the network".
