Thanks for all  your help.
I have gotten to the bottom o f the problem with help from Cisco TAC. ( 
Thanks to Steve Lawford Cisco TAC AUST)
What we needed to do was go into
USER Pages -> MAC_ALL -> Edit
and tick the boxes
Use web client to detect client MAC address and Operating System.
Use web client to release and renew IP address when necessary (OOB).
Install DHCP Refresh tool into Linux/MacOS system directory

We also had a problem with Vista not refreshing its IP addresses after 
logging into the CAS
We fixed this by turning off User account control in the user settings 
in the control panel.

There is also a java bug in Fireefox in 4.1.3 .... not fixed :-(
