Dear Friends and Colleagues -

WHAT IS THE CSCAISGC LISTSERVER? I created this listserver last year
to most effectively and efficiently communicate news about attempts to
create an Interpersonal and Small Group Communication (i.e., ISGC)
Interest Group at the Central States Communication Association (i.e.,
CSCA). Thus, CSCAISGC.

HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: Despite the fact that the Central Region
represents what I consider the traditional "heart" of the Interpersonal
and Small Group Communication fields, there is no Interpersonal or Small
Group Communication Interest Group at CSCA. At the 1995 Indianapolis
CS CA conference, and at my request, the Executive Committee named me
the contact person for those interested in submitting Interpersonal and
Small Group Communication papers and panels for the upcoming CSCA
conference in St. Paul (April 17-21). A vote to establish an
Interpersonal and Small Group Communication Interest Group will be
taken at the St. Paul conference.

WHY A LISTSERVER? I was chair of the WSCA Interpersonal Interest Group
during 1994-95 and used "mass e-mailings" pretty extensively, to
communicate interest group business. Using this method, I would send
out about 60 people or so message at a time. I have since learned that
this puts undue strain on our mainframe system and that a listserver is
a more efficient way to go for this sort of communication. So I had
the computer folks here at Miami set up CSCAISGC so that I can
efficiently remind you of upcoming deadlines and spread news about the
conference and other issues of interest to Interest Group members.

You should be able to respond to this message and have your message go
to all those individuals I put into the listserver.

IF YOU WANT TO SEND A MESSAGE TO ME PERSONALLY (I.E., NOT TO THE ENTIRE
GROUP) E-MAIL ME AT [log in to unmask]

IF YOU WANT TO SEND A MESSAGE TO THE ENTIRE GROUP, EITHER RESPOND TO
THIS MESSAGE OR SEND A MESSAGE TO: [log in to unmask]

As it currently stands, the CSCAISGC listserver is a MODERATED group.
That means that every message submitted comes to me and I decide
whether or not to send it out to membership. Thus far, this has been a
very low traffic group. I have done this to keep the signal to noise
ratio high (e.g., I haven't sent along the 12 or so offers I have
received concerning magazine subscription clubs and systems on how to
make money at casinos).

I should be sending out a few messages (maybe 2-3) in the next couple
of days concerning the upcoming St. Paul conference. I apologize for
any inconvenience this might cause you. Let me know if you have any
questions or concerns.

Paul Mongeau
