Call for Nominations
Distinguished Book and Article Awards
NCA Applied Communication Division

The Applied Communication Division of the National Communication Association
(formerly SCA) seeks nominations for its annual research awards. These awards
acknowledge research of NCA members that has made, or offers the promise of,
significant contribution to scholarship in a pplied communication theory,
research, and/or practice.

Awards will be given in two categories: one to the author(s) of an outstanding
article published in a communication or related-discipline journal; the
other to the authors(s)/editor(s) of an outstanding scholarly text.
Textbooks are not eligible for this award. When warranted, the committee may
choose to recognize authored and edited books in two separate categories.
Articles and books published with a 1995 or 1996 copyright date are
eligible for consideration. Materials previously submitted for these awards
are not eligible.

To apply, send a letter of nomination or self-nomination to the committee
chair below. Include a brief rationale and explanation of the significance
of the work to applied communication theory, research, and/or practice.
Any published reviews of the work should be included. Four copies
of the article or book should also be submitted.

The awards will be presented at the business meeting of the
Applied Communication Division at the 1997 NCA Convention in Chicago.
The award recipients will be invited to participate in a special panel at the
1998 NCA Convention.

All nominations and materials must be received by September 12, 1997.
