                        NCA GROUP COMMUNICATION DIVISION
                            CALL FOR PAPERS AND PANELS

The newly-formed Group Communication Division of the National
Communication Association invites competitive papers and program
proposals on theory, research, pedagogy, and application in group
communication. The Division is committed to encouraging scholarly
inquiry into group communication across many different types of groups
and contexts, including task groups, support groups, classroom groups,
family groups, children's groups, peer and friendship groups, teams, task
forces, temporary groups, and decision-making groups.

Competitive papers should not exceed 30 typed double-spaced pages
(excluding title page, abstract, references, figures and tables). They
should include a 50-75 word abstract with the title of the paper at the top
of the abstract and a list of important keywords. Multiply-authored
papers should have the most likely presenter of the paper circled on the
cover page. Papers authored by students should indicate "student" in
the upper-right corner of the cover page, so they can be considered for
the best student papers award. Papers suitable for poster sessions
should indicate this on the cover page. Program proposals should
include a clear statement of purpose and program title, supporting
rationale, a 200-word abstract of the program's theme, a list of
participants, titles, and brief summaries of the papers or presentations,
plus a statement that each participant agrees to attend. For both
competitive papers and program proposals, all authors and/or
participants should provide their institutional affiliation, mailing address,
phone and fax numbers, and electronic mail address. This information,
along with the paper or program title should be on a cover sheet, which
should be the first page of the submission.

Five (5) copies of all submitted materials must be received in the office
of the program planner by February 10, 1998. Send submissions to
Marshall Scott Poole, Department of Speech Communication, Texas A&M
University, College Station, Texas 77843-4234; 409-845-5177;
