Hello all -
I believe this message has come around once before, but Jeff Winslow at Talawanda has asked that it go around again. He is still in need of acitivities to fill out the Science Week program.
We have done this program for the past 3 years and it is great. It is very easy and well-organized. I know the kids have a lot of fun with all of the activities that they do.
This would also be a GREAT program for MU students to do if they are still around!
Just email Jeff Winslow ([log in to unmask]) if you are interested or have any questions for him.

Thanks!

May 9-13, 2011 will be the 5th Annual Miami/ Talawanda Science Week. Approximately 1100 Talawanda elementary students visit campus each year and participate in a series of hands-on activities that spark interest, motivate learning and promote scientific thinking. We can measure that Talawanda students are learning more science and engineering today than 5 years ago. This will have a lasting effect on learning and encouraging students to choose STEM careers.

Please Help Us.

We are looking for individuals (faculty, staff, students) to facilitate hands-on activities with students. Students will be in groups of 20-25 students accompanied by their teacher. 1st graders visit on Monday, 2nd graders on Tuesday, 3rd graders on Wednesday, 4th graders on Thursday and 5th graders on Friday. Each activity will last 50 minutes, from 10:00-10:50am, 11:00-11:50am and 1:00-1:50pm.

* The activity could be something related to your research or just an introduction to a science idea.
* It could be an activity that you design or something that we work together to plan and organize.
* You could help for an hour, a day or for the entire week.
* Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please contact me with thoughts, questions, or suggestions. Please forward this message to students and staff that you think might be interested in outreach opportunities for school children.

Thanks,
Jeff Winslow
