Dear Colleagues,
We will be hosting a one-day seminar entitled "Ecological Models and
Data in R." The workshop will combine formal presentations and hands
on practice by participants. It is funded by Miami's Center of the
Advancement of Computational Research (CACR).

WHEN
Monday, 18 February, 8:30 AM - 5 PM. The University is open for
business, but there are no classes on that day.

WHO
The Instructor: Ben Bolker (U. of Florida) is a broadly trained
theoretical ecologist who works with disease in amphibians and other
hosts, spatial dynamics of populations, seed dispersal and forest
dynamics, and a few other topics.

WHAT
The workshop will include presentations and interactive sessions.

Presentations: The workshop will include presentations that
demonstrate how a research can use modern theoretical and
computational tools to achieve an interesting and useful dynamic/
stochastic model, grounded in data, of how a natural system really
might operate.

Interactive Sessions: We urge individuals to come prepared with data
and ecological questions they would like to
answer with them. The instructor, Ben Bolker, will spend time
discussing both conceptual and practical issues of model building and
data analysis for questions and data brought to the workshop.

WHO CARES:
Such a workshop would have a broad target audience, but would be
focused toward two broad groups of researchers:
1. Researchers who generate data, and
-- want to do more than a t-test or ANCOVA,
-- are simply curious to find out more about what is possible to do,
-- may want to collaborate with modelers,
2. Modelers who are interested in collaborating with empirical
biologists.

WHERE
1st Floor Computer Lab Classroom, King Library, Miami University,
Oxford Campus
