Hi all,

The Botany Department seminar this week concerns a
new collaboration between the Universidad Autonoma de
Tamaulipas in Mexico and Miami IES. This project
involves restoring/protecting a wetlands area that
extends from Texas into Mexico for hundreds of miles
along the Gulf coast. This area is the winter habitat
for many migratory birds and is visited by sea
turtles and other rare/endangered species. The
collaboration will involve exchange programs between
students from both schools in all life science areas.

We are fortunate to have some distinguished guests
from our Mexican partner (including the university
president) here to help participate in the kickoff.

Please come to the seminar at 3:00 in Pearson 218
tomorrow, Friday, Oct 21. The talk will be a joint
presentation by Alfredo Huerta (Botany) and Mark
Boardman (IES).

THe reception will be at 6:00pm in Room 212
MacMillian Hall. Beer and wine will be provided (for
those of proper age) along with lots of food. There
will also be music by a wind ensemble and a string
quartet.

Hope to see you there,
Linda Hartmann
