Lucy was a wonderful colleague. What a shock, and what a loss!

Lucy was a gracious, intelligent, kind, warm professor and colleague whom I have known for years, and I can't believe we will no longer see her smiling face at our meetings.

I am heartbroken. Lucy was unfailingly kind, welcoming and generous to me from the first day I walked into an ALSB conference 22 years ago.
How I shall miss her!

Subject: Sad News: Lucy Katz

Lucy Katz, retired Business Law Professor from Fairfield University in Connecticut, passed away earlier today. As many of you know, Lucy was a long-time member of ALSB who helped organize (and coordinated for many
years) the Feminist Legal Studies Section, and was in the forefront of the Alternative Dispute Resolution movement. While at Fairfield, she led groups to Haiti to witness poverty, established a mediation project, and held a named chair.
More importantly, she was a warm and generous person, a brilliant thinker, and thoroughly committed to equality and social justice. One of my fondest memories from ALSB conferences is that Lucy never wanted anyone to have dinner aloe--so if you planned to go out with her, as I often did, you always had to expect her to invite others along. And you would always be glad she had done so.
Last spring, she suffered a recurrence of cancer.
