Tom Friedman had a better (semi-serious) idea in an op-ed piece in the NYT
Friday. I quote:

"P.S. My only hope is that no matter who wins, he will name Ralph Nader the
first U.S.                    ambassador to North Korea. That way Ralph can
spend his days with another egomaniacal narcissist, Dear Leader Kim Jong Il,
and get a real taste of what a country that actually follows Mr. Nader's
insane economic philosophy -- high protectionism, economic autarky,
anti-markets, anti-globalization, anti-multinationals -- is like for the
people who live there." (Friedman, "Original Sin"  NYT, p. 33, 11/10/00).

The less sarcastic parts of the editorial of the editorial are pretty good,
too.

There is an interesting op ed piece today by L. Tribe--obviously not to be
taken too seriously since he is a known liberal -- but he suggests that a
"remedy" IS possible if a court were to find that the ballots were
exceedingly confusing, and it would be to freeze votes for bush/nader, and
only permit those who might have confused the gore/buchanan to re-vote,
upon filing an affidavit that they were voting as they had intended to on
election day... Having been prepping to teach ftc/advertising this week I
see certain analogies here to implcitly false/expressly false ads...

Have also been thinking re: two other proposals from various sources. One
would minimize the harm done in this case by allocating fla electors
"proportionately to the vote"...this would obviously not be totally
"accurate" if they end up discounting some 6% of the votes despite them
being the result of confusion--but it might be close enough to satisfy most
of the legitimacy.

Finally, I like the letter to the editor of today's NYTimes, suggesting a
gore-bush coalition (similar to last nites SNL?) with Nader as head of epa
and mccain to head a commission for finance reform. What say to that one?
