Subject: Multitasking: What a professor knows that students don't
Hi Colleagues,
The other day in my big Legal Environment of Business class I noticed a couple of (male) students sitting way back up in the top tier of seating looking at an open laptop computer, pointing and laughing. I stopped talking. Shortly they looked up at me. I said, “I think it would be helpful if you paid attention to what’s going on in class here. You can look at that website after class is over.” And the young man with the computer on his desk said, “Oh, I am just taking notes.”
Well, no he was not just taking notes. Warranty law in consumer protection may be interesting, but it is not laughable.
Here is a relevant article from the Monitor on the subject. Students think they can multitask and do two or three things well at the same time. They are incorrect.
Best regards,
Dan
