However, Al Gore is no Ernie Pyle.

Subject: Most Military for Bush???

There seems to be a presumption that most or all military personnel would
vote Republican over Democratic and thus vote for GW Bush over Al Gore.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but only one of these guys served in Vietnam, and
that service was voluntary, by enlistment in the US Army, and his name was
NOT George W Bush. It was Al Gore. Gore had press duties, rather than
combat, but so what. GW Bush never, so far as I know, left the United
States, serving only in the TX National Guard.

Which is fine. But the idea that the Republican candidate always has a
stronger military background, or more military allegiance, than the
Democratic candidate is nonsense. 1972 Dem Presidential nominee George
McGovern served on bombers in Europe in WWII. His opponent Nixon -- like
GW Bush -- was in the military but never left the United States.

Also, many people in the US military today are minorities and women. Do
all of them vote Republican in Presidential races? I don't think so.

When the future of democracy itself was on the line, in WWII, Franklin D.
Roosevelt was President. And, if memory serves, he was a Democrat. And
the United States won that fight.
