John D. Schmelzer is the Acting Director of Field Coordination Programs, Office of Field Programs, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Washington, D.C. Mr. Schmelzer has had a long and distinguished legal career with the EEOC. Currently Mr. Schmelzer supervises the EEOC's mediation program in the EEOC field offices, oversees administrative hearings for complainants in the federal sector, and directs the free outreach and technical assistance programs to agency stakeholders. John will speak about "Current Cases and Challenges in Employment Discrimination Law * A View from Inside the EEOC." Some of the topics he will discuss include the recent Supreme Court case endorsing disparate impact claims under the ADEA, whether partners in law firms are every employees protected by Title VII, the state of mandatory arbitration for employment discrimination claims, and religious discrimination in a post-9/11 world.
