Greetings!

The AICPA released its final report regarding the new CPA exam criteria today. Last year, the AICPA published an exposure draft of proposed revisions to the CPA exam in which it proposed a reduction of business law content. ALSB submitted a response to the exposure draft, requesting and arguing for an increase in coverage from the proposal. In the final report, the Business Law allocation of the Regulation (REG) section was increased to 10-20% from the proposed allocation of 5-15% in the exposure draft. Business Law was the only area in the REG section to increase from the exposure draft to the final report. I am so happy for this progress in such an important issue for our profession.

Some topical changes apply. I have attached the entire final report for your review. Please share it with your colleagues and administrators as support for your business law classes in the curriculum.

Warm regards,
Linda Christiansen
ALSB Chief Accounting Officer & AICPA Liaison
