Dear Colleagues--This is in response to Judith's question about Master Teacher proposals and the JLSE.

The JLSE welcomes submissions from all those who submit proposals for the Master Teacher competition. We have published articles and case studies derived from several past Master Teacher presentations, including:

* Mitchell and Yordy, "COVER It: A Comprehensive Framework for Guiding Students Through Ethical Dilemmas," 27 JLSE 35 (2010)
* Johns, "The Logic Doctor Is In: Using Structure Training and Metacognitive Monitoring to Cultivate the Ability to Self-Diagnose Legal Analysis Skills," 26 JLSE 357 (2009)
* Charters et al., "Using the Case Study Approach to Challenge Students in an Introductory Business Law Course," 26 JLSE 47 (2009)
* Ciocchetti, "Employment Law, Negotiation, and the Business Environment: A Cooperative Collective Bargaining Negotiation of the National Hockey League Lockout of 2004," 25 JLSE 127 (2008)
* Halgas, "Don't Try This at Home: Using a Multilayered Approach to Teach the Law of Sexual Harassment and Sexual Harassment Investigations," 23 JLSE 217 (2006).

A case study based on Marisa's winning presentation from last year will be appearing in our next issue.

It has usually been the case that the materials presented in the competition itself are adapted and further developed before publication in the JLSE. Submissions will go through the normal double-blind review process on the way to possible publication.

I'll let Marisa speak on what those running the Master Teacher competition are looking for. Best regards--Tonia

Hi, Marisa,

I have a question about the Proposal for the Master Teacher Award. The directions say,
All participants are encouraged to formulate their proposals into an article to be submitted to the Journal of Legal Studies Education.
Does this mean that the proposal should be ready to be published, or is this something the finalists should consider afterwards? Exclusive of the appendix, how long should the proposal be? Should it include all the citations, footnotes, etc.?
Thanks,
Judith

Subject: Master Teacher - Proposals Due 29 April 2011

Dear ALSB Colleagues,

I hope you are considering participating in the Master Teacher Competition this August. I know that there are many great ideas and teachers in the group. There is still plenty of time to write a proposal! The deadline is Friday, 29 April 2011. The submission details are in the current ALSB newsletter.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in New Orleans.

Best regards, Marisa
