Yes, it is true that the Republicans have proposed removing the
tax-exempt status of TIAA-CREF.  When this item first came across the
Chronicle of Higher Education's on-line service
last week, I contacted our federal lobbyists about this, and they had
confirmed it and were working with other Big Ten schools' officials to
contact relevant people in Congress.
