Ken, I couldn't agree more! (Plus, I have a problem with the fact that most
law school publications are student-edited--but that is a topic for another
discussion.)
 
May I suggest an alternative--external faculty reviewers. I have served as
an external reviewer of the publications (law school and otherwise) of a
number of my ALSB colleagues so I know many business schools use this to
evaluate the quality of published scholarship.
 
Laura, would your committee be willing to send your work to those same
professors whose articles they used to generate the publication list? It
seems to me this is a much more valid and fair method (as well as having
some precedent to support it).
